ACCLAIMED ABSTRACT PAINTER CYNTHIA CHAPMAN UNVEILS BURST
Inaugural Solo Exhibition with Christopher Cutts Gallery
BURST runs December 6, 2025 – January 17, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[Toronto, Ontario, November 29, 2025] – Christopher Cutts Gallery is proud to present BURST, a major new exhibition by Cynthia Chapman, opening Saturday, December 6, 2025, 2–6 PM. This marks Chapman’s highly anticipated debut with the gallery following the closure of the St. Catharines Mann Gallery and her previous representation by the Moore Gallery in Toronto. The move to Christopher Cutts Gallery signals a bold and invigorating new chapter.
Introducing BURST
These are not quiet flowers…
They are detonations.
In this explosive new series, Chapman transforms wildflowers into pure kinetic force. Fireweed, lupine, columbine, and trillium blast across the canvas in thick, sculptural impasto, vermilion cores ripping open, cobalt petals shattering, saffron centres flaring white-hot. Decades of restrained energy finally erupt in fearless, sweeping gestures of oil paint. This is Chapman’s most powerful and liberated body of work to date.
“For me, BURST is the first time I’ve let the paint do exactly what it wants, no holding back, no apology. These flowers aren’t polite; they’re detonating, pushing, taking up every inch of space they deserve. This is the start of a phase that refuses to be contained.”
This exhibition is a radiant declaration of rupture and renewal, reaffirming Chapman’s commanding voice in Canadian abstraction.
A New Gallery Chapter The transition to Christopher Cutts Gallery, one of Canada’s leading contemporary venues, underscores the continued urgency and relevance of Chapman’s vision.
Looking Ahead In 2027, Chapman will present an expanded museum survey at the Art Gallery of Northumberland (Cobourg), further illuminating her evolving practice.
Opening Reception Saturday, December 6, 2025 | 2–6 PM Exhibition continues through January 17, 2026
